more cannonball sinkers and some 1 lb bank sinkers

A festive afternoons casting produced a few selection of lead weights. We've made a bunch of 3lb cannonball downrigger weights, about 7 of the 1 lb Bank sinkers and a selection of 6 and 8oz Egg sinkers.

Egg sinkers are very popular in Florida for Grouper and Party Boat fishing.

The Egg sinkers as poured, they still have the pouring sprue attached. I find that if I twist off the sprue while the sinker is still war...not blazing hot, but pretty warm, I can easily twist the sprue and off it comes. When cold the lead is much toougher to twist off. I then reload all the cutoff sprues back into the lead pot for reuse.

a stack of 3lb ingots poured from cleanoing up about 300lbs of wheel weight lead weights.

WoW...what a great big stack of lead ingots. This pile o ingots is an afternoons work in cleaning up three big buckets of tire wheel weights. I melt them down in the cast iron pot, skim out the steel clips and any garbage stuff. Then I flux the lead twice with a bit of candle wax. After fluxing I wait a few minutes for the organic materials to burn away then reskim any remaining dross and then pour ingots using the angle iron mold I built previously. The skimmed off dross probably is high in antimony and tin so for now I am collecting the dross in a pickle bucket...when its full we will try to render it down and pour dross ingots....maybe then take them to the recycle plant.
